The Challenges of Coming Back

I'm ready to make a comeback into the Art world.  I'm ready to do Gallery shows, Face Paintings, Portraits, Album Covers, Illustrations, Books and eventually, a Graphic Novel.  Sometimes it's very hard to do everything by yourself, and then you end up asking yourself; "So many, ideas, so much work to do, but where do I begin?"

Finding your place as an Artist in the big city within the 2013 Digital Age is tough these days, unless you are filthy rich. Yet, the irony of every Artist is that we are very creatively rich.

I think that in every Artist's heart, there is a cry to be known. An Artist need to have his/her voice heard through the radios of colored pencils, markers, pens, pencils, erasers, watercolors, oil/acrylic paints and Adobe Photoshop. But then there are the blocks. A huge frustration from people that surrounds you who cannot understand your so-called, "weird" mentality. The extreme madness of viewing your work as trash once its completed; yet it's a masterpiece in everyone else's eyes. The struggle in maintaining your confidence and the feaf of recognizing and understanding  the possibilities of your true talent. The reality of how your seasoned skills and hard-working committed years in perfecting the style and technique of your craft; yet wondering if you can rightfully say the your are master at what you do. The headaches of developing exposure, getting clients, meeting deadlines, hanging up pieces on walls, art budgeting; and becoming blind to what you are truly made out of. The demands of rapidly developing ideas for your clients and most of all, your next journey on the canvas. The energy and the momentum you need to possess to get a million things done; yet at the same time, age and fatigue usually creeps up on you. The challenges of changing the "Starving Artist" theory. The decisions of whether you are creating art for yourself, to get celebrity status, to become stuck within the intense streams of pop culture; to get into a woman's pants; or for those whose hearts you have touched; or whether you are creating art for those who continue to become moved and inspired by your messages to the world and most of all, the universe.

These are the things that I contemplate about constantly. Most times, you just gotta do what is best for you and your craft. The key is to believe in yourself and that you are a powerful being on this earth because you have something others may not have. It is also a flow of energy that must come naturally. I have also discovered the youth of today's aggressive passions to express and free themselves through works of art and music. Yet, most of them function primarily within elements of oppression, hate, violence, crime, and most of all, lack of home training. I feel it is time for us veterans of the visual arts to finally step up to the plate and bring back the true essence of what art meant to be, or used to be; and bring some sense of formal guidance to the troubled youth of today.

I have finally realized in my life that I have become a master at my craft, although there is always room for learning newer things. Like it or not, we have become the true masters and true legends of what we do; for we came from a time where the bar was set so high to prove yourself to be the most talented and professional Artist that you can be and those times are pretty much over. We were all born to change the world. So can we do the right thing and change it for the better?

How Bad Do You Want It? (Success) HD

Peace and blessings everyone. Life is a very challenging and learning experience.  It is what you make it. The only person that comes between your success and your failure is you. No one else is in between, no one else is to blame, no one else is responsible. Just the connection between you and the divine.  I am finally at a moment in my life where pushing so hard to succeed does not get you anywhere, or life being at a pause or a standstill.  Sometimes you need some of that to develop strength and power in order to make things more effective. I am here to break the glass of failure, to destroy the gauntlet of life's huge walls that puts everyone within a box of envy, jealousy, greed, misery, desire, hunger, pain, broken promises and broken dreams. The time is now.

Sweet One

Peace and Blessings, Everyone. It's been a while since I have been blogging. I have been in the cocoon for quite some time; this it my latest piece, "Sweet one" that i have completed since Jan 2012.

It's June and it's summer time. Still looking for Graphic, Web, Illustration and Motion Design work (https://www.elance.com/samples/HoneyRiver75/gallery/), and feeling a little frustrated.  But failure is not an option  as long as divine power is in place.

Its time to move forward, everyone. Never backward!

Comfort Zone

Comfort Zone 11" x 17" Digital

Peace and Blessings, Everyone! I just finished a new piece today, entitled "Comfort Zone." It was pretty fun doing this piece; I wanted to focus primarily on my lighting and shading skills. I wanted to give the piece a sense of comforting vibes; a feeling of moments when you come home after a hard day of work or dealing with the children and you just want to lay back after a nice warm bubble bath and slip into something nice and smooth for the night.

The background is an Art Nouveau frame; my favorite French style of Art. The piece itself is also inspired by a classic Vanessa Williams song, "The Comfort Zone", released in 1991. (She's my all-time favorite sexy cougar, lol!)

More work coming soon! Stay Tuned!
Peace and Love!

Geronimo!!!!!!!

Another fallen revolutionary, "Geronimo" Pratt, has made his transition this past Friday, June 3, 2011.

It seems to me that we are definitely living in a different time; while the legendary elders are slowly fading onto the mysterious ancestral worlds, the question that I have is this: who is going to continue to deliver their teachings and their wisdom? We as a people are slowly losing our love and appreciation for culture, heritage, liberation and knowledge of our history and spirituality. Our community is becoming misguided by what is the now rather than being guided by what is the foundation. Our education is poor, our music voice is processed, and our arts are becoming extinct. The consciousness of knowing that we are African is becoming more and more of a myth to us. When are we going to cease the time?

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised! The Revolution Will Be Live!

Good Morning everybody. I must praise and honor the ancestors in observance of Memorial Day and in loving memory of a fallen BLack King and Afro-Revolutionary, Gil Scott Heron, who has made his transition yesterday, May 27, 2011.

I remember when I first saw Mr. Heron, back in 1997 performing at S.O.B.'s in New York City. He came on stage, went to his keyboard, and before he began his performance he was cracking jokes and expressing his crazy experiences in Europe after he came back from his tour. He began his performance with his band, did only four songs and then announced that he and the band was going to take a ten-minute break. After a few minutes, they announce that Gil Scott Heron has left the building! Everyone was shocked!
I have always respect his early work in the 70's as a singer and a poet. Pieces of a Man was by far a classic album. Although he had a serious drug problem throughout the years, I have always honored and respected this man of consciousness and black talent. He was never afraid to express himself, and we as Artists should never have any fear to express and liberate ourselves. We should not apologize for who we are.

Lovely Day

Today is such a Lovely Day; Bill Withers is on my mind!

Despite of all the challenges in life, all the rough times and the hard lessons I had to endure, I am not afraid to experience joy!  My Divine Mother Oshun continues to shine on me and remind me who I am as a strong man of greatness and kindness. I give thanks to Olodumare, Oshun and Shango for blessing me with a gift to express myself through my art.  Art is the blueprint of myself. We as Artists are all creators; we have to greatest ability to create and develop this world into a beautiful place.

To my beloved Mother who has brought me into this world, I will always love you; thanks for everything! To my beautiful daughter, my precious Diamond, you are the reason why I live and create. Everything that I do in this world, I do for you. And I have said to you before, I will always have your back no matter where you are! You continue to inspire me and may Oshun continue to watch you and see you grow!

This is a new piece I did last Monday. I hope that you all feel refreshed and clean! lol!
